Introduction
NECA Group Training is an electrical and refrigeration apprentice
training organisation set up as a subsidiary of the National Electrical
Communications Association NSW chapter. It has the specific task to
promote the entry of young people into the electrical and refrigeration
trades. NECA Group Training selects and recruits suitable people for
apprenticeships and then places them with host trainers to gain on the
job experience. This means that participating contractors can have the
assistance of an apprentice without the long-term commitment. At the
same time receiving the benefits of an extra apprentice.
To finance the operation, host trainers are charged an hourly rate for
the time that the apprentice spends on the work site. Because NECA Group
Training is a non-profit organisation this rate is very competitive and
no charge is made for additional items such as TAFE attendance,
Superannuation, Holidays and Sick Leave or for Rostered Days off. An
additional charge is made if the apprentice qualifies for extra payments
to meet employer conditions such as fares, travel and site allowances.
